ADAM JAMES SMITH (co-director/co-producer/editor)
Adam is a Stanford and Cambridge educated filmmaker from the United Kingdom. He holds a keen interest in the creation of built environments and the expression of identity within these spaces, almost exclusively in China and the United States and until very recently, in Japan. To date, he has produced, directed and edited four short documentaries in America - The Diner, Love & Allegiance (co-dir Tijana Petrovic), Shangri-La, Role Play - and one feature documentary in China, The Land of Many Palaces (co-dir Song Ting). Adam recently completed three new projects also shot in China that are set to be released during 2019 - Americaville, a feature-documentary about the replica of the Wyoming town of Jackson Hole on the outskirts of Beijing; Nightworld, an experimental kaleidoscopic meditation on nighttime in Chongqing; and Fantasy Factory (co-dir Kadri Koop), exploring the dissonance between lived and imagined realities through the photographic process against the backdrop of China's replica cityscapes. In addition to making his own films, he has worked for Rabbit Bandini Productions, Stanford’s Office of Public Affairs, the China Central Academy of Fine Arts, and the Chinese National Academy of Painting. Adam is currently an Assistant Professor of multimedia at Florida Atlantic University and an Affiliated Filmmaker at Cambridge University's Visual Anthropology Lab.
